two people can express equivalent action in pursuit of (paying the same price for) X. both can evidence an ‘ordinally first-place’ preference by presently acting on it. in this way, we could say two people have the same first preference. do these objective qualifications also mean that the subjective valuations are equivalent?

in taking each action, other actions in pursuit of other values are not chosen. each individual has a unique web of circumstances which make up their schedule of wants. the cost/benefit analysis of what is specified to be, by circumstances, a unique individual - necessarily must also be unique.

two individuals can never feel the same way about each other, not only are the social-goods under evaluation not alike, but also the perspectives of appraisal.

supposing we could assign a unit of calculation to subjective value (which we cannot), would we then be able to potentially find an equivalency of subjective valuation? yes, assuming the margin of inaccuracy within the given ‘unit’, roughly equivalent valuation could be achieved. it is the roughness, the inaccuracy, that even within this hypothetical knowability we face the problem of empirically smaller and more precise units of measurement. i suppose it might be possible to someday isolate the biological unit of value, that would be neato. in fact, lets assume we just discovered it …

time represents units of change, continuously shifting circumstances are the inputs which make up each personal set of values/aversions with corresponding degrees of intensity. what i mean to say is that even if we were able to isolate an instance of truly equivalent valuation, it would be a momentary and passing event.

seeing other entities as a set of traits , as a complex of traits associated together - a social (‘market’) value emerges in regards to inclusion based on the demand for selected traits exhibited by another, countered by aversions to traits also held within the complex. (more on this later)

it appears inevitable that one individual will value the complex of traits (other person) more or less than this other person values the initial individual. even if there is a quality of swapping, the point is primarily that inclusion (togetherness) will be sought by one party more than the other, thus enabling a dominant category of ‘bargaining power’. i use that expression with much reserve, as i intend to investigate social interaction, not economics, and in neither realm of investigation would i wish to prescribe any values - such as equality. someone with ‘more to offer’ is not equal to someone who has ‘less to offer’, and there is no implicit moral undertone in isolating a dominant condition that an individual may acquire within an instance social interaction.

This is a neat little post, though it’s a scosh jargony.

It is virtually impossible that two individuals will value each other equally. To the extent that one person is valued more than the other in a relationship (and valuation takes into account replacability) is the extent to which the more valued person has more bargaining power than the less valued person.

But this bargaining power is completely dependent on the valuation of the other person(s), and so abuse of bargaining power can result in the other person not valuing you because you abused the bargaining power, thus resulting in you losing your bargaining power - at least with that person.

This may or may not apply to two people who hold each other in the highest ordinal value, who by valuing each other will do things for each other constantly.
